Comparison - The Incredible Shrinking Man
RC2 Universal (2006) &
TV-Broadcast
(ca. 1995)
Kommentar: This comparison shows that an old tv-broadcast of Jack Arnold's The Incredible Shrinking Man, which was supposedly open-matte, turned out to be heavily cut off at the sides - it seems a 1.78:1-print was simply blown up to fit the 1.33:1-frame. The opening credits are also different.

Please note: the captures of the filmclips were taken from an old VHS recording of the program and are only meant as a comparison between the framing and not the quality. See also the comparison between the DVD and an unmatted filmclip from an interview with the director here, showing that the movie was hard-matted and why it couldn't have been opened to 1.33:1.
